How do you Abide in HIS love?
LINDA ISOM, ANGEL CROSSING WARD
It took us five years of heartache and faith to welcome our son Jake into the world. Along the way, we experienced the sorrow of losing his twin brother early in the pregnancy. My patriarchal blessing had promised I would have children—not just a child—and yet the journey to fulfill that promise felt impossibly long. For twenty years, I endured painful surgeries for endometriosis and PCOS, often feeling like Heavenly Father wasn’t listening to my pleas. When we lost another baby in 2007, I began to accept that maybe Jake would be our only child. Then came a prompting that changed everything. We felt inspired to pursue adoption, though it was a path full of uncertainty and fear. Adoption often takes years, and ours was no exception. After navigating many ups and downs, we learned about two precious twin girls waiting for us in Ghana. As we worked tirelessly to bring them home, another miracle occurred: I discovered I was pregnant. Overwhelmed with shock and fear, I kept it to myself at first, assuming that heartbreak might follow.Twenty weeks into the pregnancy, we traveled to Ghana to finalize the adoption process for our daughters. Due to delays with passports and visas, they had to remain in their country for several months. On May 7, 2012, our courageous daughters finally arrived home with their devoted father—because by then, I was too far along in my pregnancy to travel. Just 28 days later, I gave birth to our son Noah.
After 15 years of marriage, we went from a family of three to a family of six in less than a month. As overwhelming and wonderful as this blessing was, it came with immense challenges. Gaining three children at once stretched us in ways we didn’t expect, and sometimes all we had was God’s love to carry us through. We didn’t always make perfect choices, and we made more than our share of mistakes. But the Lord never left us. He was always there, by our side, lifting us when we felt we couldn’t go on.That was 13 years ago. Today, we have a wonderful, blended family of both adopted and biological children, each one sent to us by a loving Father in Heaven. Our story is a testament that God’s plans for us are greater than we can imagine, and His promises never fail. We know without a doubt that we could not have survived the journey without Him.
