What Charity Means to Me -- Deija Peterson

“When the world uses the word charity it often means giving material aid to those in need. But as members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints we know that charity is the pure love of Christ. It is the Christlike motive behind acts of kindness. When you asked me how cleaving to charity has blessed my life I immediately think of those Sisters who came to the rescue during my time of need. Their acts of kindness included hours of playing with my child when I desperately needed a break, homemade meals, Diet Dr Pepper deliveries, names put on the prayer roll, texts just to check in, shoulders to cry and so much more. They probably seemed like small things to those sisters, but it had a huge impact on my life and was the most beautiful blessing. I learned the true meaning of charity from these sweet sisters. I love the scriptures in Moroni 7:45-48 where it tells us to cleave unto charity. I am grateful for the hard things I’ve been through that have enabled me to learn the importance of both giving and being on the receiving end of charity.”
