A personal history is a gift that keeps giving down through the generations and never ends. It is a way to communicate with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and be an influence in their lives. It gives them a sense of belonging and helps them to identify who they are and where some of their personality traits, talents, and even weaknesses originate.
I helped my father-in-law and mother-in-law write and publish their personal histories. It has been my blessing to watch as their books lift their spirits when they share them with family and friends. They are 90 and 91 years old and are very active and alert.
I am currently writing my own story. Every word written and every picture selected is for my grandchildren and future generations. I want them to know who I am and what is important to me. I want them to know that I have a testimony of the gospel so they will want to stay close to the gospel as well.
Writing my personal history helps me to be a better person. I continually pray for Heavenly Father’s help as I write and it is an amazing experience. I love it! It is my gift to my family.
